Collaborative program between the Faculty of Science and Technology, Medan Area University and PT. Nusantara Siana Eko Solusi (PT. NSES) and Malaysia, which involved consultants from Singapore from 20 to 22 February 2020. In this case, the collaboration is engaged in waste management in several Regencies / Cities in Indonesia. The first city visited was Dumai City, because Dumai was one of the Regencies / Cities that had problems with waste management. The rubbish there is treated lenfil (planted in the ground) and then given a pipe to release gas, this model is very dangerous, can cause fires and explosions large enough to cause poisoning to the surrounding community.
So the PT. NSES from Singapore and PEMDA (Department of Environment) which involved the Medan Area University in this case the Faculty of Science and Technology to join in this matter. The waste handling process is carried out as follows:
- Field observations, analyzing gas hazards, identification of species of animals and plants that are on site
- Uncover the trash with heavy equipment and add anti-odor and anti-toxic material that comes out of the pile of garbage
- Making treatment:
a. Stockpile of old garbage from the ground as much as 100 tons
b. New dump 100 tons of garbage directly from trucks
d. Hoarding old garbage and new garbage mixed with 100 tons - Make a bacterial solution
- Water the bacteria and anti-odor culture to the rubbish heap
- Cover the garbage heap with blue tarpaulin
- Analyzing the type of waste that is on site
- Estimating the number of each type
- Prepare a test material filter tool after 21 days
- After 21 days the NPK compost and micro compost were analyzed
